Why Choose Dunkin' Donuts?
As one franchisee said, "Coffee is the second largest commodity in the world, [second only to oil]. The industry is not just another fad." Dunkin' is able to continue to grow at a steady rate, unlike other franchises that fluctuate with the economy, because people want and need coffee. However, there are several factors that set Dunkin' apart from its competitors.
For one, Dunkin' is affordable. The coffee is still less than $2.00 but its high quality. Dunkin' has routinely ranked as number one in the Coffee and Baked Goods category by Entrepreneur Magazine. The environment in which customers are served is warm and inviting, making people want to return for more. This is why Brand Keys Customer Loyalty Index continues to award Dunkin' the number one spot for Customer Loyalty.
Aside from brand strength, there are countless other reasons to partner with Dunkin'. The brand offers unwavering support to franchisees, beginning the moment they sign the franchise agreement. It also partners with other prominent and respected brands to build strength, such as Coca Cola®, Smucker's®, Keurig® and JetBlue®. These partnerships help the brand achieve a broader reach and recognition, from which franchisees benefit directly.
Dunkin' continues to innovate to meet customer demands. The brand is constantly introducing new menu options, for all of which they provide accurate nutrition information so guests can make informed decisions. Dunkin' cares about the planet as well as its guests and strives to use products that serve the planet as well. The brand also gives back to the community via the Joy in Childhood Foundation, which raises funds to support partnerships with food banks, children's hospitals and other nonprofit organizations that serve sick and hungry kids.

History
The first Dunkin' Donuts was founded in 1950 in Quincy, Massachusetts by a Mr. Bill Rosenberg. The first franchise agreement was signed and executed in Worcester, MA in 1955. Eight short years later, in 1963, Dunkin' celebrated the opening of its 100th store. In 1966, the brand founded the Dunkin' Donuts University.
The 1970s proved to be an exciting decade for Dunkin'. In 1970, the brand opened its first store overseas, in Japan. In 1972, the brand introduced Munchkins® donut holes for little ones, and six years later it aired its first commercial on network TV. By the end of the decade, Dunkin' Donuts was celebrating its 1,000th store opening in the United States.
In 1980, the world's largest Dunkin' Donuts opened in Bangkok, Thailand. The store offers seating for up to 130 customers.
By 1992, Dunkin' had tripled its growth from the decade before and was able to celebrate its 3,000th store opening. It was in the 90s that the brand started to offer more than just donuts and coffee. In the late 90s, Dunkin' introduced bagels and Coffee Coolatta®, a frosty version of the brand's beloved coffee. By the end of the millennia, Dunkin' celebrated having sold over 8 billion cups of coffee since its founding.
In 2000, the brand's 50th anniversary, Dunkin' Donuts opened its 5,000th restaurant. The new millennium proved to be promising for Dunkin', as it released its "AMERICA RUNS ON DUNKIN®" campaign, a slogan that has since become a household saying.
In 2011, Dunkin' Donuts celebrated it 10,000th worldwide restaurant opening in Xi'An, China, which, for the brand, was a global growth milestone.
Ideal Candidate
Dunkin' doesn't partner with just anyone. The brand looks for franchisees that share the same values as those established by Bill Rosenberg nearly 70 years ago. Those include honesty, integrity, fairness, respect, humility, transparency and responsibility. If you hold these values near and dear, and if you meet the financial requirements, you may be a great candidate for franchising a Dunkin'.
