History
Chris and Robin Sorenson opened the first Firehouse Subs restaurant in 1994 in Jacksonville, Florida. The two brothers always knew they wanted to start a business. After a couple of unsuccessful ventures, they found success with their restaurant concept. When they opened their first restaurant, both brothers were firefighters, as their father had been too. This inspired the theme for the restaurant chain as well as the focus on supporting first responders in the company's charitable giving. The company began offering franchises the following year.
Today, Firehouse Subs continues to enjoy widespread success, with over 1,000 locations and continued expansion. The company has received numerous awards, including recognition as one of the top food franchises and one of the fastest growing franchises.
Ideal Candidate
The company prefers that franchisees or those operating the restaurant live in the area where they plan to open the location. The company would also like to see franchisees operate the business themselves rather than delegate it. However, each application will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis and exceptions may be made.
The total investment to open a restaurant typically falls between $160,583 and $843,390. The initial franchise fee is $20,000. Franchisees opening units in certain areas may qualify for discounts under the Market Growth Program; those opening multiple units in those area may be eligible for additional reductions.
