History
The first Golden Corral restaurant opened in 1973, in Fayetteville, NC. It operated as a family steakhouse that seated 175 guests. Over the ensuing decade, additional locations opened. The company focused on serving well-cooked favorite menu items in a welcoming setting designed to appeal to families.
In the 1980s, the company made some changes in response to popular demand. These changes including a larger building design that could accommodate 400+ guests. The new design also featured a food preparation area fully visible to guests. An expanded menu featured added salad bar items as well as additional entrees. It also introduced the Golden Choice buffet, which offered over 160 hot and cold foods.
Today, Golden Corral continues to improve and update its selection. It has been widely recognized in the industry as a leading restaurant chain and franchisor.
Ideal Candidate
There are currently two incentive programs where eligible franchisees can receive a reduction of the initial franchise fee. A franchisee who has an approved plan for opening a Golden Corral at a site formerly occupied by an Ovation Brands location may pay an initial franchise fee of either $10,000 or $30,000. Additionally, a current franchisee who signs an area development agreement to open additional locations may qualify for a reduced initial franchise fee of $15,000 for the new unit.
