Why Choose Great Canadian Dollar Store?
A Great Canadian Dollar Store franchise can be a good choice for franchisees who wish to invest and work in the retail industry. The brand has grown throughout its 25-year history, and franchisees may find the opportunity to open one or more stores in locations throughout Canada. In some cases, franchisees may be able to begin operations in as little as two months.
The franchisor provides assistance to entrepreneurs throughout the process, including help selecting a location, ordering initial inventory, and finding new products. Franchisees may also have access to support for marketing, including meetings with other owners to discuss regional advertising topics. Franchise owners may also receive regular store visits from company experts to help improve performance.
Franchisees may choose the traditional route of constructing and opening a brand-new store. Many existing franchisees own and operate multiple locations, so this system could be a good choice for those who wish to expand operations into several stores. Additionally, there may be opportunities for franchisees who wish to purchase an existing store that's already in operation. The Great Canadian Dollar Store franchisor advertises the possibility of re-franchising stores in the Greater Vancouver area.

History
The Great Canadian Dollar Store was founded in 1993 by Bud and Vivian Walker. The founders' goal was to provide customers with a vast selection of items sold at discount prices. Customer service was also a high priority; the Walkers wanted each store to have friendly staff members who were ready to assist customers in getting the most value from their purchases.
A franchisee named Kevin Kane helped the brand to take off in the Atlantic Canada region. In 1997, he opened the first Great Canadian Dollar Store franchise east of Alberta. He continued expanding his collection of franchises, and by 2008, he owned 21 operations, including the largest Great Canadian Dollar Store in the entire country. Kane was named the 2007 Retailer of the Year by Trader's Forum Magazine. In 2015, he purchased the Great Canadian Dollar Store company from the Walkers. Kane continued to open more locations, and today, he owns 49 Great Canadian Dollar Stores throughout eastern Canada. He is committed to continuing the legacy left by the Walkers: to provide customers with extreme value and exceptionally friendly service.
Currently, there are 121 Great Canadian Dollar Store locations throughout Canada, owned by 42 franchisees. Over 30% of franchisees own multiple stores.
Ideal Candidate
Ideal candidates are entrepreneurs who have the desire to follow the Great Canadian Dollar Store system according to the franchisor's direction. The franchisor prefers candidates who wish to work as hands-on operators of their businesses. Franchisees should be willing to operate a business in an available Canada territory and should have the financial means to invest in developing a new store.
