Why Choose Jersey Mike's Submarines & Salads?
Jersey Mike’s says that its model gives owners the opportunity to lead balanced lives and to give back to community causes. In fact, each grand opening event supports a charity in the community.
Owners of traditional restaurants have a designated (exclusive) territory that is generally a radius of 0.5 miles to 1 mile. That said, nontraditional locations may be found inside territory that is otherwise designated.
Jersey Mike’s prides itself on its fast and fresh approach. The customers who frequent its restaurants tend to be relatively affluent and seek higher-quality food than what they would find at a regular fast food restaurant. The sandwiches are easy to portray as portable, healthful and fresh, and many customers are return customers who love the great food and the Jersey Shore decor.

Training & Support

History
The story behind Jersey Mike’s begins in 1956 in Point Pleasant, New Jersey. A man named Mike opened Mike’s Subs in this Jersey Shore location about an hour from New York City and Philadelphia. Many of the beachgoers who visited the shore got to experience Mike’s Subs, which offered a novelty—the submarine sandwich. Mike also focused on delivering an exceptional customer experience.
Peter Cancro entered the picture in 1971. He’d been working at Mike’s Subs since age 14 and was still in high school. He enlisted the help of his football coach to buy the store after Mike talked about selling. Thus, 17-year-old Peter Cancro became the new owner of Mike’s Subs. Cancro and his then-wife opened a few more Mike’s Subs, and Cancro began franchising in 1987. In addition, he changed the name of the chain to better connect the restaurants with their roots.
Ideal Candidate
Jersey Mike’s wants people who recognize the worth of a proven system and who care deeply about their communities. Ideal candidates are positive, competitive, friendly and confident. Restaurant experience can be helpful but is not required. Current owners hail from all walks of life, and many are former customers and employees.
Training is extensive, more so than what many other franchises require. Thus, ideal candidates should also be able and willing to undergo eight to ten weeks of in-store and classroom training, some of it in Point Pleasant, New Jersey.
