Ongoing employee training is made available via optional online courses, and hotel managers are required to attend an annual franchise convention.

History

Motel 6 opened in Santa Barbara, California in 1962. True to its promise of economy lodging, rooms originally cost six dollars a night, prompting the name Motel 6. Three years later, a second Motel 6 was opened in Salt Lake City, Utah. It wasn’t until 1994 that the company opened its brand name to franchisees when the first location appeared in Williams, Arizona. As of 2018, Motel 6 has approximately 1,400 hotels throughout the United States and Canada.
