History
Dale Rector, a real estate professional, founded the company in 1965 in Scottsdale, Arizona, with four agents. He pioneered the concept of the 100% commission, designed to incentivize agent performance. His compensation system instantly distinguished Realty Executives from other real estate agencies. The following year, the company opened an office in Phoenix and had 19 agents working for it.
The following years saw a continuation of the company's initially rapid expansion. By 1970, there were 100 agents. In 1972, Realty Executives was ranked first among Phoenix brokerages. In 1973, the company began its franchising operations as it opened a brokerage in Tucson. The franchise company was named Execu*Systems, Inc. The following year, the Phoenix location exceeded $100 million in sales.
In 1976, Realty Executives expanded outside of the state of Arizona, opening a location in California, then continuing to open locations throughout several states. In 1984, Rich and Robyn Rector purchased the franchise company.
1988 marked a new milestone, as Realty Executives opened its first international franchise in Canada. The 90s continued to be a successful period for the company, as it added over 100 new franchises and expanded to Mexico and South Africa. In 1997, the company partnered with Habitat for Humanity to institute its corporate charitable program which helped build and renovate homes for people in financial need.
The following years continued to see a substantial expansion in the international area, with locations opening in South America, Central America, Mexico, Australia and throughout the Middle East.
