About Samurai Sam's
Samurai Sam’s Teriyaki Grill serves fresh, healthy Japanese fast food with dishes such as the sumo bowl, sweet and sour bowl, riceless bowl, and spicy steak and broccoli bowl. Also available at the restaurants are kids’ bowls, rice bowls, salads and sides such as grilled egg rolls and edamame. Online ordering and catering may be available, depending on the location.
The units are divided into traditional and nontraditional locations. Traditional locations cost more to open and are freestanding or in places such as a shopping mall or street-front location. On the other hand, nontraditional units may be in sites such as military bases, hospitals, casinos and college campuses. They do not offer the same full menu that traditional locations do.

Why Choose Samurai Sam's?
Many of Kahala Franchising’s brands may appeal to potential owners who would prefer to bypass traditional franchise choices, and Samurai Sam’s certainly fits the bill. No burgers or fries are served here. Instead, customers get quality, fresh food in restaurants with appealing, bright designs. Being a part of the Kahala Franchising family, you will receive thorough training and support from personnel who have helped numerous franchise owners succeed in varied spaces. You’ll get help with site selection, construction and design, crisis management, employee training, marketing, public relations, coupons and much more.
Samurai Sam’s may be especially attractive to veterans, who get a 20 percent discount for the franchise fee. For veterans and non-veterans, if all goes well with your first Samurai Sam’s and you want to open more, there are incentives. Namely, you get a few thousand dollars off the initial franchise fee.
In short, Samurai Sam’s is a good choice because its purpose is clear—to give diners healthier, more diverse fare—and it has an extensive network of support. You can still open a location even if you don’t meet financial requirements. You just need to partner with someone who does, and that person must own at least 50 percent of the restaurant.

History
In 1994, the first Samurai Sam’s opened in Arizona after its founder, a Seattle native, decided to inject teriyaki goodness into Scottsdale. Now Kahala Franchising oversees the franchise units along with restaurants such as Baja Fresh, Thai Express, Great Steak, Taco Time, Cold Stone Creamery and Sweet Frog. Samurai Sam’s has made a name for itself by offering fast, fresh and healthy alternatives to typical fast food outlets. It has received accolades such as #1 Asian Fast Food Chain by Entrepreneur magazine in 2002, 2003, 2007 and 2008.
Ideal Candidate
Potential Samurai Sam’s franchisees should have realistic expectations, passion for the brand, entrepreneurial spirit, a focus on customer happiness, financial stability and leadership skills. Ideal owners are also people-focused, team players and knowledgeable about following systems and processes. In fact, owners with backgrounds in the military, middle management, sales or marketing typically do very well. Restaurant experience can be extremely helpful but is not strictly necessary.
