History
The Travelodge brand began in 1940 in California with the goal of providing travelers with affordable accommodations in a laid-back atmosphere. The franchisor for Travelodge began as a Delaware corporation called Bear Acquisition Corp., which was incorporated in January 1996. The name was changed to Travelodge Hotels, Inc. a couple weeks after incorporation.
Travelodge Hotels, Inc. is a subsidiary of Wyndham Hotel Group, LLC, which is in turn owned by Wyndham Hotels & Resorts, Inc. This corporation is commonly referred to as WHR. It was created in 2018 during a restructuring of the Wyndham Worldwide Corporation that separated the hotel business from the timeshare business. Currently, Wyndham Hotel Group serves as the franchisor for Travelodge, and it owns several other franchising subsidiaries.
Ideal Candidate
Ideal candidates for a Travelodge franchise would have the desire and financial resources to invest in a conversion or new-construction hotel. Potential franchisees should be able to provide capital or secure financing for the total investment amount, which is over $1,000,000 in most cases.
